The incident took place around 12:35 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 10, in Uniondale, said the Nassau County Police.
According to detectives, officers observed a black 2001 Nissan Maxima commit multiple traffic violations near the intersection of Nassau Road and Uniondale Avenue.
As officers attempted to initiate a car stop the vehicle refused to pull over and entered the Southern State Parkway westbound at Exit 21.
After a short distance the vehicle pulled over onto the grass and the driver, Crystal Martin, 34, of Flushing, exited the vehicle and fled on foot. After a brief foot pursuit, she was taken into custody, police said.
An investigation found multiple glass pipes containing what is believed to be crack-cocaine throughout the vehicle. The passenger in the vehicle, Dana Leak, 48, of Freeport, was taken into custody without further incident and was found to have an open warrant from Nassau County.
A further investigation determined that Martin was involved in a disturbance on Monday, Dec. 7, in Baldwin.
While officers were investigating that disturbance, Martin allegedly struck an officer with the Nissan Maxima driver’s side door multiple times before striking the officer's vehicle.
She fled the scene at a high rate of speed. The officer was transported to an area hospital for treatment of their injuries.
Martin has been charged with:
- Assault
- Two counts of unlawful fleeing an officer in a vehicle
- Reckless driving
- Criminal possession of a controlled substance
- Criminal possession of a forged instrument
- Multiple traffic violations
Leak was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance.
Both women were arraigned on Thursday, Dec. 10, in Mineola.
